NY NOW – Summer 2013

Drawing 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and 80+ countries, NY NOW is produced twice annually by GLM Shows and is open to the trade only. Held in January and August in New York City, the Fair hosts 2,800 exhibiting companies showcasing the very best lines across the home, lifestyle and gift spectrum.

What’s new

The summer 2013 market will introduce four new comprehensive market collections and a dynamic new exhibit floor layout, positioning New York as the defining marketplace for fashion-forward, design-driven home, gift and lifestyle resources. The show’s transformation also includes new branding, as NYIGF becomes “NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle.”

The show’s reorganization into four collections – Home, Lifestyle, Handmade and New – and the repositioning of related resources not only reinforces the depth and breadth of resources in the New York market, but also better reflects the way retailers are shopping and sourcing today.

NY NOW HOME presents a comprehensive collection of 1,200 home furnishings, home textiles, decorative accessories, tabletop and gourmet housewares on Level 3 of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. A juried cross-category collection of contemporary design resources will continue to be presented under the renowned Accent on Design® banner and within NY NOW Home.

NY NOW LIFESTYLE will showcase a broad spectrum of merchandise categories, including giftware, personal care, stationery, fashion accessories and children’s products. NY NOW Lifestyle’s 1,100 exhibitors will be located on Level 1 of the Javits Center, with an exhibit floor layout engineered to maximize synergies and cross-category shopping opportunities.

NY NOW HANDMADE offers nearly 500 handcrafted resources – representing all home and lifestyle categories and crafted in all types of media – with distinct groupings of designer-makers and global import resources. Handmade® Designer Maker will continue to be presented in the Javits Center North and Handmade Global Design will continue to be presented in the Javits Center’s Level 4 Galleria.

NY NOW NEW! spotlights newcomers to the New York market in a cross-category collection of home and lifestyle products. Some 250 new-to-market exhibitors will be grouped together at Pier 94.

WHITE PLAINS, NY, July 5, 2013… Two new designer-commissioned logos have been introduced to identify and to promote American-made products during the summer 2013 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), August 17-21, in New York City. Separate “Made in the USA” and “Handmade in the USA” logos will be included on booth signage and called-out in directory listings for some 450 NY NOW exhibitors who identify themselves as having American-made products.

“Increasingly, consumers are making conscience-based purchase decisions, and are seeking out the ‘Made in the USA’ label,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM senior vice president. “Across all four NY NOW collections, there are hundreds of these resources, and these logos will make these products even easier for buyers to find.”

To develop the new logos, NY NOW partnered with Red Clay, a collaborative product design studio, to commission artwork from the designers in its online community. The winning logo, which was created by Max Ptk, a creative designer and digital artist, is inspired by the “minimalist flavor” of the newly-introduced NY NOW logo, and incorporates elements of the American flag, building architecture, and arrows to indicate forward movement. NOTE: Logos are available online.

The new logo will represent products and suppliers which have met specific criteria to authenticate American-made products. The criteria was developed in advance of the winter 2013 market through a partnership between NY NOW and CRAFT, (Craft Retailers’ Association For Tomorrow), an association of galleries, shops and artists dedicated to promoting American-made craft. The joint initiative – the Handmade in USA Project – was created to make it easier for retailers to identify, source, and sell crafts made in America.

A related seminar, “Cash-In on the Cachet of “Made in the U.S.A.” will be presented at NY NOW on Saturday, August 17, from 12:00 Noon to 1:30PM. Moderator Jill Homiak, of USA Love List, and a panel of American-made sourcing and selling specialists will explore authentication and certification, as well as marketing and brand positioning that capitalizes on this growing consumer preference. Participants include Marcie Gabor of Made in USA Brand, Melissa McGrath of Navy Blue Home and Gifts, and Heather Lawless of American Craft Week. Tickets, which cost $20 before August 13, and $25 afterwards, are available online at www.nynow.com/programs.

In addition, a first-of-its-kind display will showcase American-made products – both handmade and factory-produced – at NY NOW this August. The exhibit, curated and installed by Paul Thompson, will feature nearly 200 products from NY NOW exhibitors. A list of accepted companies and their products will be available online at www.nynow.com after July 1.

NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, will run Saturday, August 17, through Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94. NY NOW’s four comprehensive collections – HOME, LIFESTYLE, HANDMADE and NEW! – will encompass 100,000 products in 400+ product categories. Some 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide are expected. Information and registration is available online at www.nynow.com.
